The ÖkoWind project brings key sustainability topics such as climate change, the circular economy, and resource conservation into the classroom, helping children and young people understand and experience them in a practical way.
The aim is to spark early enthusiasm for scientific research and sustainable action. The partners Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib), Agrobiogel, Innovethic and Strateco combine research with practical application within EcoWind. Students are actively involved in the research process – for example through experiments on the enzymatic degradation of plastics or on plant cultivation using bio-gels derived from waste streams.
The project places particular emphasis on self-directed learning and the transfer of knowledge. Participants develop into knowledgeable ambassadors who share their expertise through peer-to-peer learning – in their classrooms, at school events, and within their families and communities. Creative assignments, including the design of educational games and projects on the ecological footprint, foster a deeper understanding of sustainable ways of living.
