Transparency and openness at acib

As an international centre of excellence for industrial biotechnology, acib GmbH stands for transparency, openness and a focus on the common good. Science communication is a central part of our work, as we want to promote the exchange of knowledge and inform the public about our research. At the same time, we conduct research in close cooperation with industry in order to translate scientific findings into economically viable processes and products. In doing so, the protection of trade secrets is essential to secure innovations and ensure the competitiveness of our partners and that of acib.

As a company audited by the Court of Auditors (“Rechnungshof”, acib GmbH is subject to the Freedom of Information Act (Informationsfreiheitsgsetz, IFG) in accordance with § 1 Z 5 IFG from 1 September 2025. In this context, we undertake to comply with the legal requirements and to provide transparent insights into our work, insofar as this is compatible with our obligations towards our partners.

Please note that access to the requested information may be restricted for various reasons. These may include: protection of personal data, protection of trade secrets, protection of the intellectual property rights of affected persons, prevention of damage to competitiveness, etc. (§§ 6, 13 (2) IFA). Furthermore, information that is already available in other legally prescribed databases (e.g. commercial register, transparency database, etc.) will not be provided separately by us.

Please note:

  • Requests for information will only be processed if they are submitted via ifg@acib.at.
  • They must be designated as an application or request for information in accordance with the IFA (“Antrag bzw. Informationsbegehren gemäß IFG”) and describe the requested information in sufficient detail.
  • Furthermore, the identity of the applicant or person requesting information must be verified. Please enclose a copy of your ID with your application. In the case of a legal entity, proof of authority to represent the entity (extract from the commercial register/power of attorney) must be enclosed.
  • Requests for information will only be processed by us during our normal business hours (Monday to Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., except public holidays). If a request for information is received outside these hours, it will only be considered to have been received on the next working day.
