Lab technician: Development of plant cell lines for metabolite production

That’s the project

We develop a plant cell-based technology for the production of pharmaceutically relevant plant metabolites.

That could be your contribution

  • Constructing artificial genes using molecular biology techniques: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR amplification and DNA cloning
  • Sterile culturing of organisms: E. coli, yeast, and plant cells
  • Analytics of metabolites and proteins: HPLC, FPLC, protein extraction, immunoblot detection
  • General laboratory maintenance: ordering, stock keeping, preparation of buffers, etc.

That’s important to us

In the best way you have completed a training for biological or chemical technical assistances. Likewise, a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry/Biochemistry/Biotechnology or related fields is suitable. We are particularly interested in candidates with the following skills and experience:
  • Practical experience in molecular biology: working with DNA and RNA, cloning, PCR, culturing E. coli and yeast and/or
  • Practical experience in process science: metabolite and protein extraction, quantification by HPLC or FPLC, cultivation of cells in a bioreactor

That’s what you should know

Research will take place in the Institute of Microbiology & Microbial Biotechnology at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Service of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU).

  • The annual gross full-time salary is EUR 38.900
  • This corresponds to a monthly net amount of EUR 2.039 (gross amount EUR 2.779) paid 14 times a year.
  • Start date: as soon as possible (July 2025) – Contract duration: 12 months
