Astrid Preisz studied English and Spanish at the University of Graz and finished her studies as an interpreter in 1990. After her studies she worked as a free-lance translator and interpreter in Graz. At the same time she was offered a part time position as an assistant to Prof. Herfried Griengl, at that time leader of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for chiral compounds: enzymatic and microbial synthesis. This was the first time she got in touch with chemistry and biocatalysis. In 1992 she assisted in the application for the „Joint Research Programme Biocatalysis (SFB Biokatalyse)“ funded by the Austrian Science Fund, the first one to be established in Austria. In 1993 Astrid Preisz took over the overall administration and assistance of Prof. Griengl in his capacity as a speaker of the SFB. This work found its logic continuation when, after 10 years, the SFB finished its activities and Prof. Griengl and his colleagues from TU Graz, University of Graz and University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna decided to go for a Kplus centre in the framework of the Austrian Kplus programme. The Research Centre Applied Biocatalysis (Angewandte Biokatalyse-Kompenzzentrum Gmbh - A-B) was founded and Astrid Preisz became responsible for scientific coordination and personal assistance to Prof. Griengl as the scientific director of the Centre. In this position she also participated in the application for and establishment of ACIB Gmbh.
In ACIB Astrid Preisz is coordinator of the research field Biocatalytic Synthesis and responsible operative controlling and conferences.
