Andreas Tauss studied technical chemistry at Graz University of Technology. He graduated at the Institute of Organic Chemistry with a diploma thesis on „Intelligent Products from Cheap Renewable Sources: Explorative Experiments with Selected Sugars“ followed by a PhD thesis on „Novel uncommon substrates and potential inhibitors of glycoside hydrolases: syntheses towards novel derivatives of aldofuranoses and aldoseptanoses“ in the lab of Prof. A. Stütz. He complemented his studies with two research stays in companies (Prof. B. Bellus und Dr. D. Sartor, Ciba/Basel on the Synthesis of N-Aryl-en-amines and their intramolecular photocyclisation and Prof. B. Ernst and Dr. R. Öhrlein, Novartis/Basel on Chemoenzymatic synthesis of nucleotide-activated sugars) and project work on “Imminosugars as antibiotic agents” conducted in the “Glycogroup” of Prof. A. Stütz.
After graduation from the business academy of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce's Institute of Business Promotion he started the preparatory work for the Research Centre Applied Biocatalysis (A-B) under the direction of Prof. H. Griengl where he became head of the staff office after the centre’s approval in 2002 and was closely involved in the establishment of ACIB as a K2-Centre.
