Friedrich Altmann studied Food- and Biotechnology at “BOKU”. From 1984 to 1987 he did a doctoral work, partly in Giessen, Germany and at BOKU. Since then, his interest was devoted to the structure, biosynthesis and, last but not least, the biological functions of protein-linked carbohydrates. His work involves some immunology and molecular biology, a good deal of enzyme purification, glycopeptide preparations and - thanks to the acquisition of a high-end LC-ESI-MS in 2003 - a good lot of analytical biochemistry. With the now arriving latest generation high-end mass spectrometer(s) the focus will shift even more to proteomics and protein analysis, which shall be applied to Pichia pastoris and other expression hosts.
In ACIB Friedrich Altmann is responsible for the Pichia proteomics core facility.
