Christian Kubicek studied biochemistry and biotechnology at Vienna University of Technology where he received his PhD in 1977. He habilitated in Microbial Biochemistry (at Vienna University of Technology) in 1983 and in Applied Microbiology (at University of Vienna) in 1987. In 1986 he became leader of the research area “Microbial Biochemistry” at the Institute of Biotechnology and Microbiology at Vienna University of Technology. In 1991 he became associate professor at the same institute, and in 2003 he became full professor for biotechnology and microbiology at the Institute of Chemical Engineering at Vienna University of Technology.
Christian Kubicek’s research interests are focused on molecular biotechnology and science-driven recombinant strain improvement of industrial fungi, particularly Trichoderma, which includes genomics and transcriptomics, molecular physiology , molecular microbial evolution and biochemistry as tools. He has been acting as editor and editorial board member for several international journals, has published about 300 papers in peer reviewed international journals and edited/written 5 books.
Within ACIB he is key researcher in one multifirm and one strategic project in the research fields Enzymes and Polymers and Cell Design and Cell Engineering.
