Birgit Wiltschi studied biochemistry at Graz University of Technology where she accomplished her PhD in 2002. From 2002 to 2005 she was a postdoctoral scientist at the Membrane Biochemistry Department, Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried. In 2005 Birgit Wiltschi became a senior scientist in the Molecular Biotechnology group at the MPI and in 2010 she changed to the Institute of Biology II & BIOSS - Centre for Biological Signalling Studies of the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg as a group leader. In November 2011 she took over the junior group Synthetic Biotechnology at ACIB.
